England, 1983. 12-year-old Shaun is an isolated boy growing up in a grim coastal town. His father has died fighting in the Falklands war. All that is left of him is some memories, favourite snapshots and a few keepsakes. One day, Shaun comes cross a local gang of skinheads and makes friends with them. His new pals change the image of a fresh group member as well as his outlook on life. Together, they trash buildings, go to parties, try alcohol and first kisses. It all turns the gloomy and prickly kid into a self-confident teenage rebel - for a time being. Everything changes completely when an old friend Combo unexpectedly gets out of prison and upsets the gang. Combo starts voicing neofascist views and racist remarks. He takes a few gang mates, including Shaun, to a local meeting of the extremist National Front. They terrorise people of foreign descent living in the neighbourhood and spray racist graffiti. But in spite of anger and hatred towards others, deep inside they want to be loved and live an ordinary life in a normal family they have never had…
